James R. Halstead


Although elected to the Hall of Fame in the Service category, Jim is also a very good bowler. He has participated in the programs of the state association for many years and holds some state titles. His state titles include team actual champion in 1973, team handicap champion in 1983 and all events actual champion in 1988. the holder of many Kanawha Valley Association titles, his most recent is Senior all events champion in 1997-98. James is most remembered for his dedication to the youth program during the 1960's and 1970's. Many bowlers credit their abilities to the coaching they received from Jim Halstead as coach.

 

Louis C. Beihl, Sr.


Louis has participated in and promoted the activities of the West Virginia Bowling Association for 35 years, State titles held include: BPAA team champion (Local and State), team champion actual and handicap in 1970, runner-up team actual in 1971, second place in handicap singles in 1965, doubles champion actual in 1990, second in doubles in 1991. Also, local titles he has won include 3 singles, 2 All Events, and 4 team championships. He served leagues as president and secretary. Louis has taught others to bowl, including his wife and children. He works especially well with children. He is a member of the VFW and American Legion. His hobbies are bowling and golf. His tournament record is one reason that Louis is recognized as one of the better bowlers of the Wheeling association.

 

Donald M. Varner


Don has been active in the West Virginia Bowling Association for over 25 yers, and is currently the 1st Vice President. A leader in the Morgantown association, he has held the office of director (one term) and 1st Vice President (19 terms). He has been a regular at the ABC National, WV State, Morgantown Association, WV Moose and Moose International tournaments for many years. ABC has recognized Don for seven 700 series, a 300 game, a 298 game, 4 games of 100 pins over average, and two triplicates. He was on the local association championship team in 1969, 1970, 1989, 1990 and 1998. His league championships include 3 mixed leagues, eleven ABC leagues, and four senior leagues. He is an army veteran active in the VFW and Moose organizations. His hobbies include bowling, stock car racing and fast pitch softball. Don's dedicated support of bowling as well as his ability, has been instrumental in advancing bowling within West Virginia.
