Charles E. 'Chuck' Doerr
Hall of Fame, Class of 2005
Chuck was born and raised in
Wheeling, WV. Cherie and Chuck have been married for 25 years and have
two children. He is now retired from Sears, where he worked as a HVAC
tech.
After graduation from Tridelphia High
School, he joined the U.S.A.F and was stationed in Tampa, Florida and
Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam. Upon discharge in 1971 he started bowling with
his uncle, Ed Doerr (Wheeling BA Hall of Fame and office holder in the
Wheeling BA). Bowling twice a week and taking lessons from Loe Velas,
he averaged 148 his first year, using a Manhattan Rubber bowling ball.
Since then he has bowled at least three times a week.
Chuck's highest
average was 208, with a 759 series. He has bowled a 299 (2001) and a 300
(2002). For twenty years Chuck has been an officer in the
Wheeling BA. He is a certified lane inspector, President of the Friday
Night League and Secretary for four other leagues. Chuck is the Director
for Zone One on the West Virginia State BA board, a member of the WV
State Bowling Council. He has the position of manager for the WV State
Mixed Tournament and the WV High School State Tournament.
